out with a couple guy friends at the beach, some dude she hadnt gotten to know too well shoved her into a tent and beat her up in the process of shoving himself into her mouth.  so still slightly bruised she tells me how the friends she was with are now mad at her for making the poor decision to be with that guy in the first place.

okay so.  understandably, she being a bit tipsy contributed to the event but since when is it okay to berate someone for being attacked?  She didnt even go to the police because of the reaction she got from the people who should have been looking out for her.  they should have taken her straight to an ER

I get that today its all about sexual equality and equal rights, but i think its still understood that most men are larger and stronger than most women. 

my question is this:  what could possible justify treating a person whos just been beaten and sexually assaulted like a drunken moron?  “i was just beat up and attacked”  “well duh, you were drunk, you were pretty much asking for it”

in a just world, the guy who attacked her would be testicle free by now

one of my other girlfriends joked that she should have saved his semen and used it as evidence, which made me a little sick to think that had she actually gone to the police, would they have even arrested the guy?

school starts in two days, how the hell im going to haul my ass out of bed at 530 every day escapes me.  coffee and bright lights i guess

did some looking not too long ago at the cost of living here vs in monterey, for two minimum wagers and it seemed doable..      its still on my mind for the next couple years, after i finish my associates maybe.  theres a community college in monterey though, seems pretty nice, maybe a transfer?…  who knows

apparantly dinky peed on my hiking boots while we were gone, so its a trip to REI tomorrow, gonna try and find some vegan hiking shoes.

girls get the tent, boys get the weird bug cover things.  no sympathy, it should be an established truism by now that they stink up the tent far more than girls.

the cicadas are making me insane.

were on to st louis, staying with family.  realised last night as we were going to dinner that i had left my medication in the hotel in chicago, so the drive here was long and painful.  got to the point where i needed somethingthough, so we visited the urgent care place here in hopes that i could maybe get something to tide me over till the chicago people shipped my stuff to springfield missouri.  the doctor here though, gave me the real shit as apparently the stuff i was taking was like placebo-ish and thats why i was still spasming three days later (this kind of thing usually is gone in two days).  so now im on stronger muscle relaxers and a form of valium and im feeling much better.  i just spent 20 minutes spooning coffee out of my mug and watching it drip from the spoon back onto the coffees surface.  its really cool if you do it slow if forms little drops of coffee that stay in droplets for a split second before blooping back into the coffee.  im really thinking i should go easy on this stuff though, the computer screen is drifting in and out of focus.  ill update later if im lucid

were in the first springfield of the trip, springfield illinois.  just got to the hotel and this ones got free internet stations too!  the beds in the hotel are superbly soft and squishy and hard to haul myself out of :]  the familys trying to figure out where to go eat, think were just going to walk around and find somewhere, the town seems nice- very antiquey and very abe lincoln-themed.  weve already toured the house where he lived, not too exciting, pretty much your run-of-the-mill preserved neighborhoods with period people walking around.  didnt get any pictures cause i left my camera in the car, but im sure one of the parents did.  i think were here for another night or two so more updates to come…

so were on a family vacation, pretty fun so far but a couple mishaps.  we left on the 13th, and were due back on the 25th (not homesick yet by far)

were hitting chicago first, cause weve never really been, with the exception of a few layovers.  weve seen navy pier (and watched a pretty fun fireworks show yesterday night), and i went to see the bean today, officially named Cloud Gate, a huge shiny stainless steel structure shaped like, well, a bean.  you can walk under it and look up into a hollowed out mirror-like curve.  ill upload some pictures once i get home and once again have access to pierre.  so that and the beckingham fountain (both are in millenium park) which is gigantic and has huge beautiful sea horses around the central part of it. gorgeous (again, pictures later).  we also walked around and took the subway (so much nicer than new yorks!) we came across the water tower–one of the only buildings to survive the fire, and saw the hancock building and the aqua tower (very cool looking) then we ran into an adorable, beautiful old presbyterian church that was covered in ivy, and the courtyard inside was even prettier.  then mom and i ate at jimmy johns freaky fast freaky good gourmet sandwiches. one of the best veggie subs ive ever had, and easily modified to be vegan :]

the mishap i mentioned though, is that my neck is out.  i woke up two days ago and i couldnt move at all!  my muscles all up and down my neck and back are seized (and very painful) icyhot and advil were making it a bit better, but during a drive to racine wisconsin to see family, i reached back behind my head and a level 4 pain shot to a level 8/9 in a split second.  so we went to prompt care and im on muscle relaxers along with some kind of magic advil stuff and pain pills.   definite inprovement.  i can do pretty much everything except my own hair (which is a little awkward).

so were meeting up with some family later tonight and were gonna hit a vegan restaurant called chicago diner www.veggiediner.com which looks and sounds absolutely delicious!  maybe ill sway a couple of my carnivorous family members…

(update: the chicago diner ROCKED i ordered a vegan gyro-delicious, and a chocolate chip cookie dough “milk”shake that makes me want to move to chicago just so i can get one every day, the waiter we got was awesome, he made suggestions and made sure that the food was perfect, which it was.  i got a slice of some layer chocolate cake to go, and ate it later in the hotel room.  it was sinfully good, but super rich.        5 STARS!!)

anyway, updates later– im on the lobby computer and im freezing my fingers off!
